Axon Neuron

Irreversible Neural Damage

Axon Neuron is a solo project from a north german artist, who has been active (firstly under the name of Thorn) since 1995 in the industrial scene. Here is a nicely packaged retrospective of the 96-99 period, with incursions into Vagwa's tracks, his noise side-project. The man is also running his own label, Ragnarune, which is the house of Weisskreuz and Wallenstein.

Anyone horrified by Douglas Pearce's caustic and ambiguous sense of humour should have a look at the sleeve's picture of this album, which is not at all a free provocation, but only a violent message describing the high tension of the music as well as a condemnation of war's horrors. Those who understood that with enough stand back can appreciate it with a peaceful mind.

Here is an impressive collection of dark and ritual atmospheres, consisting of long captivating pieces of the highest degree. This powerful ambient industrial music, based on cuts and loops, sometimes harsch but always subtle, also includes classical music 's samples, on some tracks, which is wonderfully included into majestic ambient electronic landscapes. As if you play a Coil album when listening to the 7. Symphony of Beethoven. One track is very noise oriented, à la Merzbow (from his project Vagwa), and most of the pieces are remixes taken from the different tapes Axon Neuron published during these three years, and two unreleased tracks. This album was originally limited to 33 copies and released on the occasion of the Axon Neuron concert in Rostock for the industrial sit-in on the 5th September 99. This is one of the best releases I've heard for ages in that style of music. Shadowy rumbles resonate the eerie dark unseen territories which Axon Neuron explore to their fullest potential. This is dark ritual music at its best. Do yourself a favour and get yourself a copy of this masterpiece.

Highly recommended !
