Andrew Diey is a musician and a sound designer based in Manchester. When he is not working on the creation
of sound effects for Playstations or Xboxes, or when he is not commissioned by BBC Radio 4 or English
television, he records albums under the name of Black Faction. "Internal Dissident Part 1" is based on
Dante's Divine Comedy, describing the poet's imaginary voyage from hell to purgatory. Electronics, of
course, dominate the recording, dealing numerous beats and interesting sound discoveries, throwing bridges
a sort of tribute to some of Andrew Diey's most notable influences. A tribute to the Manchester electronica
scene with "Manchestique Concrète", or his deceased friend Bryn Jones of Muslimgauze with "Afghan Front
v1.1". Sometimes one thinks of Leftfield, on "Odessa", with the symbolic presence of Virgil in this
initiatic voyage. There is an impressively mature simplicity to the compositions that can nonetheless be
related to the sonorities of projects such as Bourbonese Qualk, Holon or Akira Yamamichi. Electronica, at
times throbbing, at times rhythmic, never boring. Recommended !
