CYCLOTIMIA - Metamorphosis - 10" - 6 tracks - Ewers Tonkunst - 2002

The Moscovite duo Cyclotimia are back with a new 10" entitled 'Metmorphosis', released on the Russian label Ewers Tonkunst... a label that was up to now closely associated to an other Russian formation Reutoff...
Cyclotimia is a prolific band in terms of creativity, after marking 2002 with three releases (a CD and a MCD on Stateart followed by a 10" on By Blade). But who is going to complain after listening to this 10"? Six tracks recorded during the year 2001 that flow along electronic soundscapes, in a laid back, melancholic, quasi-airy atmosphere... Between the multitude of small electronic and natural sounds and long synthetic swathes, the alchemy is perfect. 'Lament' and even more 'Nomansland' (excellent track, always on the edge, close to the sonorities and atmospheres dear to Reutoff) reveal the more ambient, melancholic and sadder side of this opus whereas 'Gross Market' and 'At Office' are lead with a more upbeat tempo by playing on the beats and other electronic effects...
All, nonetheless, participate to the harmony that emanates from this record in its whole... An impression of stretching out, of space and infinity loom over each track...
With 'Metamorphosis', Cyclotimia seems to be turning towards melodies that are more ambient and also richer in emotions. Is it a turning point in their approach to music or just a simple aside ? Their new album planned for this year on Stateart should bring the answer to this question...
In the immediate, the listening of this 10" (limited to 300 copies) can only be recommended...
